Who can apply to KTRU?
|
Anyone. Preference is given to Rice students, including graduate students, but we do take a limited number of "Community" DJs. |
Do I need prior radio experience or tons of obscure musical knowledge?
No. KTRU is focused on educating both the listeners and the DJs.
Do I get paid?
No, DJs are volunteers who do it for the love of the music.
What is the station looking for?
Insatiable intellectual curiosity about all sorts of music
I've heard rumors of a "graveyard" requirement. What's that?
Every new DJ will receive a shift sometime between 1am and 7am. This will only last one semester. This is non-negotiable, so make sure you can handle it before applying.
Anything else I have to do?
You will be required to spend one semester learning a sub-specialty, like mixing audio live at concerts, booking, production, music department, repairing the studio, publicity, or promotions. Positions will help you learn about the station and how it is run.
How long are the shifts?
3 hours. Once a week.
When do I apply?
We hire three times a year: before Fall semester, before Spring semester and before the summer. The hiring period usually lasts 1.5 to 2 weeks. Please check the website for the exact deadlines.
How do I apply?
Pick up an application at the station or print it from the home page. Turn it in at the station and sign up for an interview time. You must do both by the appropriate deadline to be considered.
More questions?
Please email a DJ Director (see the Contact page).
